Pure Protein Shakes – Take a Closer Look

Decided to take a closer look at how it stacks up against the competition.

One of the best properties of Pure Protein Products is the consistency of the nutritional values.

Switching flavors, the general make, and composition stay pretty close to each other.

Pure Protein Products are a better choice for someone who has diabetes or just wanting to keep the right balance on their sugar/carb to protein/fiber ratios.

Pure Protein Meal Replacement Shake Ingredients

The main ingredient in this shake is water, and then a Protein Blend that comes from concentrate.

One of the things that I like about this product is the ingredients are from simple components and not compounded chemicals that require an Engineer to understand what it is.

This product does contain milk and soy ingredients; that does not bother me personally but may be an issue for others out there.

This product packed with 35 grams of protein in one 11 ounces can! That is pretty good compared to others on the market in this price range.

The Carbohydrates are at 4 grams per can, and that is good for the diabetic consumer. At least in my experience, this is the key to keeping my blood sugar in check.

Nutritional Information – How Much Value

The nutritional value in the Pure Protein Shake is very high in protein compared to the competition, other shakes have much more vitamins and minerals, but the cost reflects the difference, in most cases, you can add two to three times more.

Pure Protein Shakes have almost double the protein than the Slimfast shake which is about the same price.

The Slimfast Shake does have more vitamins and minerals in their shake; that may make a difference to someone who is not taking a good daily supplement already.

I tried the Slimfast Shakes years ago, and it did not work for me; but back then I was not in the right frame of mind to make the conscious decisions like I do today, concerning diet changes.

My Doctor’s and Dietitian both sat that it is better not to skip a meal, but that if you get stuck on a plateau of weight loss, it may help in the short term to get your body back on track to losing weight.

Pure Protein Shakes Reviews

How do we look at the latest reviews and what exactly are we expecting to gain from them?

There are tons of reviews on Amazon, and if you Google it, there is plenty to see on this product there as well.

Amazon having this product comes as a surprise to me because I just stumbled across this product by accident earlier this week and thought I would get the word out.

That is quite funny because this product has been around for over twenty years and I just was not aware of it.

There are a lot of reviews from people who have had gastric bypass surgery and use this product to supplement the protein in their diets.

My favorite place to order from is Amazon; we have been doing that for so long now that it has become more usual to wait for a few days than to get up and run to a store when we need something.

Especially when it is something that is planned out in advance and the need is known beforehand; it just makes more sense to shop on the computer and find the best price.

    Hello Chad,

Thanks a lot for being generous on your review about this Pure Protein Shake.  I can see You have tried the product yourself from the way you’re speaking and you have been using it for a longer period with NO problem. I really like it when someone has already tried a product before reviewing it and then making recommendations.

Because in this way you’re very sure about what You’re talking about not just hear say. I like the nutritional content in this product. Especially the fact that it contains some Vitamins and Minerals which are all good for the body.

But you did mention mentioned that the product is also good for dietetics patient, do You think the milk it contains will not have any negative effect on a diabetic patient if he or she considers buying  this product?  I would like to recommend it to a friend. But I’m also thinking about the milk it contains.

Please let me know your opinion on this,

Thanks for your comments and concerns Stephen, I am dealing with type 2 Diabetes and the milk contents are not affecting me negatively.

Anyone who has diabetes should be checking there blood sugar regularly and learn how a product will effect them.

Best to check with your Doctor before changing your diet, especially when diabetes is concerned.

Because this product is essentially milk based and chocolate flavored (or strawberry) it seems to me that a lot money can be saved (as well as exposure to excess chemical components ) by using organic skim milk and Carnation Breakfast Essentials. A serving of milk chocolate flavored Carnation Breakfast Essentials  offers: 13g protein, 21 vitamins & minerals, and has twice the vitamin d and calcium than milk alone.  I personally used this product for years and while I wasn’t specifically trying to use it to control my weight, it was a delightful way to start my day for years & I stayed slim. This product is available in pre-,mixed liquid form for convenience if needed and comes in a range of flavors to keep you interested and looking forward to the next glass.

Thanks for the comment Casey, and the personal experience does put some perspective to the use of this product.

In researching this product came across several comments from people using it for weight control and many more using it to supplement the protein in their diets.

The other product suggestions sound like good supplements as well, the thing to focus on is the amount of sugar and reducing it as much as we can, whether we are diabetic or not.

I have never tried the Pure Protein Shakes, but I  like that they don’t contain a huge amount of sugar, and  the ingredients are like you mention simple components. The high protein amount in them is good too.  I am interested in trying these shakes, do you know what flavours they come in?

    • Chad Trader says:

Thanks for the comment Jenny, I know it comes in the Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla on Amazon.

There are more flavors available from the manufacturer but did not see them come up quickly on Amazon.

I have not went searching for different flavors to see where they can be purchased, but the place to start would be the Pure Protein website.

Yes, I have to agree with you that it’s really best if the ingredients are from simple components.  I like your comment about not having to have an engineer to understand what all is in it.  LOL!   4 Grams of Carbs is great, too!  I wish it had more nutrients, but really the protein is what I’m after, so since this delivers more than the competition, I think I’m going to go ahead and give this one a try.  Great write-up.  I appreciate your thoroughness.

    • Chad Trader says:

Thanks for the comment Babs, yes I work with Engineers in my day job and they can be difficult… best to just change the subject.

Yes for the price this is a very good shake but I would not recommend it unless there is adequate vitamins being consummed with other supplements.

  • Dale says:

This is amazing.  A protein shake that a diabetic can drink.  I have been looking for this and haven’t been able to find one.  Its cool that I found your site.  i am going to ask my Dr and make sure this is okay for me which Im sure it is.  Its just that diabetes is very serious and not something to mess with.  However Im sure you just found a customer.

    • Chad Trader says:

Thanks for the comment Dale, yes it is strange how we change the way we look at food once the health is effected enough.

Checking my blood sugar every day and learning how the sugar/carbs and the protein/fiber work on your blood sugar, has changed my outlook drastically.

Avisae products very good for diabetes also, I have a few post on them and will be writing more as time allows. The links are at the bottom of my website. Please check it out any let me know what you think.

  • Jennifer David says:

Thank you for this helpful and informative review.

I agree that the pure protein shake will have more nutritional value than slimfast and I really do not think that would be hard to do. lol

I must say that I am really not sure about pure protein in a can.  This is just my opinion.

    Many thanks

    • Chad Trader says:

Thanks  for the comment Jennifer, there is almost double the protein content in the pure protein products than the competitors, most of the protein is coming from whey protein which works out better for some people.

  • Fran says:

Thank you for your information.  I am glad these can be purchased through Amazon, as I will most likely try a couple of them.  Since I live in a remote spot in Alaska, Amazon has become my department store.  I am glad to learn of the protein value in these shakes.  I try not to do too many dairy products, but use them now and them, so should be fine with that.

    • Chad Trader says:

Thanks for the comment Fran, it has been a surprise to me that the nutritional value of the Pure Protein Products is so much better than any of the other products that I have been using.

Modifing my diet for diabetes is not an easy thing to do; especially with my appetite, but it is getting better as time goes on. For supplementing protein you can use the Pure Protein Bars; that seems to help balance the salads when eating everyday for lunch.
